Former Owner of Illinois Technology Company Pleads Guilty in Multi-State Scheme to Defraud the Federal E-Rate Program

A former owner of an Illinois-based technology company has pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to defraud the federal E-Rate program, the Department of Justice announced today.  

Tyrone Pipkin was originally charged in U.S. District Court in New Orleans on Nov. 18, 2010, for his role in the conspiracy to defraud the E-Rate program.

Two Russell County, Alabama Sheriff’s Detectives Indicted for Assaulting a Man in Custody

The Justice Department announced today the arrest of Russell County Alabama Sheriff’s Office Detectives Kirby Dollar, 37, and Timothy Watford, 42.  

A federal grand jury in Montgomery, Alabama returned an indictment on March 22, 2011, charging Dollar and Watford with civil rights offenses related to their assault of a man in custody on Nov. 26, 2010.

Department of Justice Releases Investigative Findings Involving the New Orleans Police Department

Following a comprehensive investigation, the Justice Department  announced its findings on March 17, 2011 that the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has engaged in patterns of misconduct that violate the Constitution and federal law.

The investigation, announced on May 15, 2010, was conducted pursuant to the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
