Judge Thomas Carney, a district judge from Erie Pennsylvania, admitted waving a gun at another motorist, and he is now being put on trial for professional misconduct.

A three-member panel of the Court of Judicial Discipline heard arguments in April 2011.

The judge pleaded guilty to two summary counts of disorderly conduct and was fined $541 for the highway incident in January 2009. Court papers say Carney twice made obscene gestures at the other motorist for driving too slowly in the passing lane of Interstate 79, then rolled down his window and extended his arm to display a .38-caliber handgun.

Carney also is accused of other ethical violations, including making public statements about pending criminal cases.
