Former Wilson County Tennessee Police Officer arrested by Federal Authorities for trying to Sell Information

 

Federal authorities arrested John Patrick Edwards, a former Wilson County Tennessee police officer for allegedly trying to sell information on a federal drug investigation to a target of that investigation, in exchange for $100,000 and a Range Rover.   

Edwards, 38, of Mt. Juliet, a former Wilson County Sheriff’s Department deputy, was familiar with the drug investigation because he was a member of the local FBI Violent Crimes Task Force.

  According to federal documents, Edwards approached a person that he knew to have contacts with a target of the drug investigation and offered to sell information about the investigation in exchange for $100,000. On April 12, Edwards accepted $15,000 cash, as partial payment for facilitating the information exchange to the target of the investigation, federal documents allege. “I didn’t do it,” a shackled Edwards said Tuesday afternoon as he left an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge E. Clifton Knowles.

 

Edwards will remain in custody at least until a preliminary hearing on Friday. At that time Knowles will consider federal prosecutors’ request that Edwards remain incarcerated until a trial.
